The Umoja Community Education Foundation is excited to announce the 2026 Summer Learning Institute (SLI), taking place June 10–12, 2026 in Sacramento, California at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel. This intensive institute is designed for faculty, program staff, and administrators affiliated with Umoja Community programs, offering a valuable opportunity for professional development, collaboration, and collective reflection on our work supporting Black student success. The Summer Learning Institute immerses attendees in the philosophy, pedagogy, curriculum, and theoretical foundations of the Umoja Community model. Educators and practitioners from California Community Colleges will engage in meaningful dialogue about educational practices that stimulate the genius of our students while strengthening Umoja programs across campuses.
Throughout the institute, attendees will collaborate with colleagues through presentations, discussions, keynotes, and interactive sessions that support program development and deepen understanding of Umoja’s principles. College teams are encouraged to attend in groups of up to 5 participants to build shared strategies and strengthen campus implementation of Umoja. If you would like to register more than five, please reach out, and we will offer space if it is available closer to the Institute. Register for SLI 2026:
